Cookie Monster!
I love chocolate chip cookies. But they don't love me. I can't bake. I made cookies today and they were so yummy out of the oven but an hour later they were hard as a rock. How do I know when to pull them out of the oven? I always follow the directions, and think yes this time i've done it! But no.... Anyways I need a fail proof recipe, one that can not be messed up. So PLEASE for the sake of my cookie cravings please help! Thanks!

Shannon! This is my favorite recipe. You don't have to use it but they come out great everytime. And I always put the excess cookies in an old empty ice cream bucket that has a lid. That keps them nice and soft. Oh. And the most important part... MIX THESE IN THE ORDER THEY APPEAR.
1 cup sugar
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups Crisco
4 eggs
2/3 cup milk
6 cups flour
2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking SODA
2 tsp vanilla
1- 12 oz. bag of choco chips.
Bake at 375 for 8-12 minutes removing when they are golden brown. =) good luck!

Okay, so I am replying to your comment..nothing to do with cookies :). Our puppy is an English Mastiff and will be HUGE! (remember Hercules from the movie Sand Lot?, he's a Mastiff) Full grown around 140lbs with a life span of 8-10yrs. As you know, Sam has a pitbull and he has recently accepted the fact that his dog is not going to be around our kids. We decided on an English Mastiff because it was the only breed cool enough for Sam that was not agressive. They are known as "gentle giants", and are very obedient. She has been a quick learner. She is 10 weeks old, and knows how to sit, come, and we are working on stay and lay. I read a lot about the breed before hand, and I love these dogs alot! But they drool a ton, eat a ton, and weigh a ton. They are super lazy though, which I love becuase big hyper dogs annoy me alot (I wanted a lab, but they can fall into the hyper category very easily!) You will want to take her home when you come Fri, she is so dang cute! Sorry it's so long :)
Whenever I bake cookies I usually go for a well known recipe...like Neiman-Marcus chocolate chip, or Doubletree...something like that...I also cook them for the least amount of time it specifies and then check on the cookies to see if they need more time after that...ALSO, if you have an older oven, it might be that the heat isn't exact...in our old apartment I had to lower the heat by 20 degrees because it ran way too hot. I guess the only way to know would be to experiment...
Oh, and store the cookies right away to keep them soft. As soon as they're cooled (usually about 15 minutes) I put them in an airtight container...that ususally helps.
